Schneidemuhl
SCHNEIDEMUHL (Polish Pila), a town of Germany, in the Prussian province of Posen, situated on the Ciiddow, 60 m. N. of Posen and 145 m. N.E. of Berlin on the main line to Konigsberg, and at the junction of lines to Stargard and Thorn. Pop. (1905), 21,624. It has five churches, a classical school and a Roman Catholic teachers' seminary. Schneidemiihl carries on a trade in wood, grain and potatoes, and possesses an iron foundry, several glass works and machine-shops, and other industrial establishments. Considerable damage was done to the town in 1893 by a violent overflow of water from a deep artesian well.
