HERMENEUTICS (Gr. (pwvevTiKri, sc. rkxvri, Lat. ars hermeneutica, from tpiaiveiittv, to interpret, from Hermes, the messenger of the gods), the science or art of interpretation or explanation, especially of the Holy Scriptures (see THEOLOGY).
